For some reason, Windows Vista (yes, I don’t know why I’m still using it) has a keyboard shortcut for “break the VGA driver and set the resolution to -1 x -1 pixels”. I haven’t figured out what the keyboard shortcut is, but I’ve pressed it twice now since about September time.
So… for future reference, this is how I fixed it:
- Open Device Manager
- Find the display adapter and uninstall it. It’s safe! Honest!
- It will ask about deleting the drivers. Do it. Honestly.
- Scan for hardware changes
- Install from the specific location:
- C:\Dell\Drivers
- Reboot
Uninstall VGA driver
Delete drivers
Scan for new devices
Install from C:\Dell\Drivers
Rebo
That should fix it.
Now… I haven’t actually rebooted it yet, but it seems to be working.
